Sexual assault is a devastating crime that consistently and forcefully impacts both individuals and our communities. As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the Office on Violence Against Women awarded funding to advance the efforts of state and territorial sexual assault coalitions and contribute to the successful achievement of ARRA goals.
ARRA project activities bolstered services to sexual assault survivors and developed victim-centered responses. Nationwide, coalitions fostered collaboration through key trainings designed to enhance communication and response. Coalitions instituted prevention curricula that influence behavior and attitude change to reduce the prevalence of sexual assault. They focused on community messaging to raise awareness, support prevention efforts, and eliminate sexual assault.
This report outlines how sexual assault coalitions are notable ARRA partners based on the primary goals of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
